Happy People Have Plans

I hope you had a fun Labor Day weekend and are now leaning into a great start to a brand-new month. My weekend was pretty chill, except for a fun trip to Greensboro, NC, where Tanya surprised me with the gift of driving an exotic car for a few laps. I’m not really that into cars, but driving a Lamborghini was SO COOL! I thank Tanya for making those plans.

Plans. That word got me thinking about something. Here’s what I know.

Happy People Have Plans!

The happiest people are always making plans. Plans for the week, plans for the weekend, plans for the holidays, and most importantly, plans for their lives. The problem is that most people put more effort into planning their next vacation than they do in planning their lives.

How about you? Do you have a plan for your life? And I don’t mean just live until you die and be a good person, but more than that. Much more.  A plan to live to a certain age, a plan to have a great level of health, achieve some milestones, grow as a person, become financially free, and leave a legacy that you are proud of?

Here are some of my plans.

  • I plan to live to 115 years with great physical, emotional, and relational health. A long life with a quick death. (I know I don’t have control over that, but I can put the odds in my favor.)

  • I plan to work until I die, doing work that I love.

  • I plan to be the best husband, father, and grandfather that I can be.

  • I plan to grow, learn, and stretch myself outside of my comfort zone.

  • I plan to grow closer to God.

  • I plan to become increasingly resilient and grow after bad things happen.

  • And I plan to smile every day, knowing that I am blessed beyond measure and that the best is yet to come.

So, those are some of my plans. How about you? Are you actively designing your life plan?

My favorite philosopher, Jim Rohn, said, “If you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else's plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.
